Yields: 12 rolls Prep time: 30 minutes Cook time: 25-30 minutes
Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 1 (1/4 ounce) package active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (105-115°F)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
For the filling:
- 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
Instructions:
- Activate yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until foamy.
- Make dough: In a large bowl, whisk together milk, egg, remaining sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir in yeast mixture. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead dough: Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Make filling: In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Stir in sour cream.
- Roll out dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough into a 12×15-inch rectangle.
- Spread filling: Spread cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Top with blueberries.
- Roll up: Starting from a long side, roll up dough jelly-roll style. Pinch seam to seal.
- Slice and place: Cut dough into 12 equal rolls. Place rolls, seam-side down, in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Second rise: Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Cool and serve: Let cool in pan for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, use a combination of white and brown sugar in the filling.
- You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the filling for additional flavor.
- If you don’t have fresh blueberries, you can use frozen blueberries, but thaw them completely before using.
- To make mini blueberry cheesecake rolls, cut the dough into smaller pieces before rolling.
