- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or gouda (for extra creaminess)
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
For the Crispy Topping (Optional, for Baked Version):
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan
Instructions:
Step 1: Cook the Pasta
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Cook the pasta until al dente, according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Step 2: Make the Cheese Sauce
- In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly, to create a roux.
- Slowly whisk in the milk and heavy cream, stirring constantly until smooth.
- Add Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Cook for 3-5 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Reduce heat to low and stir in cheddar, mozzarella (or gouda), and Parmesan until melted and smooth.
Step 3: Combine
- Add the drained pasta to the cheese sauce and stir until well coated.

- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Pour mac & cheese into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Mix panko, melted butter, and Parmesan, then sprinkle over the top.
